Charlie At The BREWHOUSE

Went on down to Fitgers in Duluth last night for the Wednesday Night Bracer... featuring Mr. Charlie Parr... it was freakin' PACKED YO!

I showed up at 9... grabbed a Witchtree ESB and waited... No Charlie... no friends... just a whole shitload of folks eatin' and drinkin... 10 minutes later in walks Knasty... and two steps ahead of him was two of my co-workers that I really like... it was strange... so we all hung out... drank beer and then Mr. Sky Davey shows up on the scene... (he's living out in Grand Forks... but somehow... someway... he shows up last night) I worked with him back about 5 years ago... great dude... so it was a fateful night... oh, and Charlie did indeed show up and he started rockin' it with a dude playing harp and another on the washboard...

We drank many more beers and hooped it up in the Brewhouse... packed to the gills... rockin'... GREAT time.

Got a few pics and a short, short vid that is really crappy but you kind almost make some stuff out....

Song of the Week... From a Swedish Spaniard...

Hey party people...
Didn't make it down for the big Christmas Celebration at the Schoenrock's joint... winter snow/ice/rain/wind put a damper on that... wish we were there but I trust it all went off without us...
Anyway, not much new here... just diggin out from the, now CRUSTY, snowjob we received.

Thought I'd post a new song of the week... and I'm going with Jose Gonzalez's "Crosses". The guy is actually from Sweden... and with a name like Jose Gonzalez... wow!
Anyway... if you did "Crosses", check out "Killing for Love" as well... almost posted that instead... but "Crosses" is my favorite Jose tune...

Peace to all you folks....

The Winter Adventure

Hey party people...
I've set up another blog... called Circle of Songs.
Concept: 4 dudes...(but anyone is welcome to join). One picks a tune that everyone else has to learn within a couple weeks and then post their version of it...
So I kicked off the first tune... since I was the genius who thought of this.... I went with the classic Band tune.. The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down...
If you care to tune in to the Circle... here is the link....

Official Tomten Website.... WHAT??

Hey folks... I've been extremely lazy 'bout the blog... mostly cuz we've been doin' a whole lot of nothing exciting... any my dumb dog chewed up my camera cord and I haven't gotten a new one yet... keep forgetting...

BUT....

I do have a small tidbit of news... I've worked up a dingwopped website for Tomten.... I've got lots of goodies on there... the best of which is a tune from each artist that played that night.... well, except Sid because I didn't have a picture.... don't worry Sid... you'll be on there... someday this cold winter....

Anyway... here is where you can find the site.... http://www.tomten.x10hosting.com/

Check it out and let me know what you think... and if you think it's horseshit, I want to know that too.... you won't hurt my feelings....
Suggestions, comments, questions... I'd love to hear em.

Ciao.
*UPDATE* I opened the site at work and I was greeted to all the tunes playing at once... now if I wasn't at work but at home with a few dingers in me, I would have thought the convergence was something special... but it really wasn't.
So, if you have the same problem I had... just go in to the Tomten Sights and Sounds tab and you'll have to pause all the tunes... not sure why that is happening.. probably has something to do with the fact its FREE WEB HOSTING! DOINK!

Things have changed

Hey folks... another Dylan tune... this guy has done tons of stuff in the last 15 years that is OUTSTANDING in my opinion... not the folksy 60's Dylan but some nice groove/blues stuff... anyway... my attempt at "Things Have Changed".....
(oh, I only have like 1m 40sec of vid on my cheap shit camera... so that's why I don't torture you with any more of the stuff!)
Enjoy... or hit that little X in the upper right hand corner....

The Girl From the Red River Shore

Bob Dylan Tune from "Tell Tale Signs"... this tune was one that didn't make it on his Time Out of Mind album... one of my favorites!... Anyway, check out the real version... I don't even come close to doing it justice... not even a little... but I dig it enough to post it... sorry for the low lighting... should do these things in the daylight.... anyway..... Chad... Sid.... Jerry..... anyone... your turn......

BOOYAH Mega Post

Hey there blogger-people...
Had some good times with the big Booyah Bocce Blowout over the weekend...
Some pics....

The Booyah getting served....

Sid wondering "Am I actually drinking Hamms and Baltz??
The BOOYAH! Apple Pie I made.... yeah, I made it... thats right... and it was GOOOOOOOOD!
Carrie and Gabbie with the BOOYAH pie....

Booyah cooking over the fire...
DellMarie pitching a Bocce ball... We wasted the Sid and Gabriel/Dominic team.... losers. Me trying to determine exactly what kind of fish was on the Schmidt can... we figured it was a rainbow/brown trout mix.

Sid and Carrie showing off their BLATZ!
A night shot of the long-lasters...

What a time! I have to say it was great! BOOYAH! It was more about the experience than the eats... but it was all a good time. And for the record... Hamms was the hit... a really good beer to be sure... don't be ashamed... go get yourself a 30-pack of Hamms and try it out... you won't be disappointed.
Anyway... here's a big BOOYAH to Larry, Chester and Noel!
Dingwop!

Big Boohya Bocce Blowout Pushed Back

If, by chance, anyone who read this and made plans to attend the big Boohya party... we've pushed it back to October 24th and it will be held at the Umpierre's shack in Hermantown-town.
It might be 33 degrees out and snowing but hey that will just make it more of a BLOWOUT! I think.

Anyway... what choo think bout this one...
Hey Chad... look for a tune this weekend sometime... I hope... maybe... probably.... we'll see.

Wow... Been A While

Hey party people...
Sorry for the lack of posts... I had to go back to WORK... a drag for sure... doing something a bit new this year though and enjoying it... I'm the bad-ass detention man... you do wrong... you come see Mr. Misgen!

Anyway, looking forward to the first annual Booyah & Bocce Blowout.
Discussing some party preparations with the Sis and decided that we will be going with all old-skool beer choices for the day... such as.....
Or....

can't forget....

And one of the all-time and a personal favorites....

We'll be cooking the Booyah over the fire outdoors... just as Larry and Noel did back in the day... almost 100% officially going to be held Saturday, October 17. If you are reading this... you're invited.
I'll keep you posted.
Hope all is well with everyone.

Oh, and watch out for those road ragers... don't see too much of that up here.

Summer Of Wayne 2009 Toe-Tagged

The Summer of Wayne is officially done for 2009.... and I stumbled and stammered and fell over the finish line this year... not sure why... just happened that way.

But we have new adventures on the horizon... the most exciting of which has to be the first annual Booyah party we'll be hosting in October... and in my pre-party planning brainstorms, I am pretty darn sure we will have at least a couple cases of Schmidt beer on hand for the day of festivities. Schmidt you ask? Quite simply - in tribute to Larry and Noel... the guys who were the original family Booyah cookers back in the day.

In fact, I remember Diane giving Auntie Mary perms and Larry bringing over a bunch of Schmidt big-mouth bottles to drink while the ladies did their thing - it was probably about 10:00 in the morning to boot!

Anyway, we may even look into tying a Bocce Ball tournament into the deal... Booyah and Bocce.... look for details soon.

Hope all is well with everyone!

The Stumbling End To The Summer of Wayne 2009

I'm not going to pretend I recall when these pictures were taken so you get one big post... not nearly enough for a picture everyday... see above post.... anyway.... enjoy....

Fin on his loveseat

Not sure if you can tell by the picture...
but I mowed Mama D's lawn
and
happened upon on hornet's nest...
they stung the shit out of me...
five stings - one to the hand (above) the toe, stomach and two on the thigh..
I ran into the garage and had to strip my shorts off....
hows that for a visual?

Experimenting with the black and white...
the big tree in the backyard

Was at work (GASP!) the other day
and found this Badgers garbage can and decided to turn it into a
'washtub' bass....
I've got an old hockey stick and a clothes line wire there...
doesn't sound too shaby...
I'll post a vid soon....

DellMarie and Poppy gazing out the window.

My braid work... pretty sloppy.... decent B&W though.

Disgusted that it is, indeed, September 7th already.... ugh.

And here he is doing one of his new dance moves called
"Payin' Da Bills"
He's got some moves ladies... some MOVES!

The Schnarnival

Hey party people...
Had a great time at the 2009 Schnarnival (a deal similar to Tomten) at Al and Phoebe's house.
I was the opening act - and as Al said, "ya know what they say, everybody only remembers the opening and closing acts... they forget everyone else!" Is that true? Don't know.

Anyway, it all went great, had a great time, lots of Summit keg brew, good food and good times.... was threatening to dip into the 30's by midnight or so... everyone stuck pretty close to the fire....

Here are a few pics of the performers....

Colleen Myhre

Bill Schnabel

There was also a performance by "Chrome Dog"
but I failed to get a picture... why??? No idea.
I did find it quite funny when someone yells out...
"YEEEAAAHHH CORN DOG!"

And why these two chicks are leaning so much to the right, know one will ever know.
Drunk I suppose.

Dropping the Ball

I have been neglecting my Summer of Wayne Photo Essay.... sorry folks... but I do have some gems I will put in place of the missed days... it really is tough to take a semi-decent photo everyday for 90 days.... cuz my life isn't all that exciting... as you can tell....
anyway... one week left... oh man....
Enjoy.

Winding On Down...

Hello all you die-hard Wrenshack Wreaders...

As you can tell, I've been lacking in the Summer of Wayne posts... my apologies... its not like I don't have time.... and I just noticed... no post for the 15th of August... you can just make something up in your mind about that day....
Anyways, I'll make a point to give it my best during the last two weeks remaining...

And isn't it sad... another summer almost in the books....

Well, keep your stick on the ice and hope for some warm weather well on into September...

~peace~

8.20.09

So... this was taken the night before when we were out to eat with Bob...
So it really isn't a August 20th picture....
BUT...
I swear you will see this guy in the papers soon....
as a.....
SERIAL KILLER!
He was sitting there eating with his 90-year old mother...
of which, I'm sure he lives with....
and cuz Bob likes to have a few drinks before we eat...
we were there the ENTIRE time these two dined....
The only words spoken between the two
consisted of the old lady's nail polish being chipped off...
he said...
"hmmmm"
When he ate... he stared straight down at his plate the whole time...
like in the picture....
If he sees this...
I'm probably already....
DEAD!

8.19.09

Out to eat with the Old Man (DellMarie's dad, Bob)
I believe we had a picture very, very similar to this back in June...
weird.
Anybody ever have a Windsor & cranberry juice?
Sounds gross - who mixes whiskey and juice together???? but it is delicious...
that's mine in the foreground.
Cheers.

8.18.09

Anybody get this excited about taking out the trash
that they just sit and stare at it?

8.17.09

My homemade DiscGolf (or Frolf)

Shitloads of posts...

Sorry for the big delay in Summer of Wayne pics...
I know you have been on the edge of your computer chair wondering when the pics were coming...

no excuse really... just doin' stuff... had some dead batteries for a bit... so you get some Classic Summer of Wayne pics....

Just got a call from Al Schnabel (does Milfoiled and Dingwopped ring a bell you E-banjelicals???? - you know, rather than Sky Schnabel or Al Davey) about the Schnarnival on August 29.... a big party similar to Tomten... he's giving me a spot to play a few tunes... so excited about that... we'll have some pics...

Anyway, thanks for checkin' in - you may have to go to the "older post" link to see all the latest pics!

8.14.09

Taken at about 6:52 a.m.
We were up to head on over to the Umpierre's
to watch the kiddies for the day...
I was looking down main street Wrenshack here as I wandered over to get a
daily newspaper...
for you out of Duluth-area folks...
the Duluth News Tribune is an
OUTRIGHT RAG!!!
Remember that!
Anyway,
had a good time with the kids...
lots of swimming went on...

8.13.09

Finally got some hot-ass weather....
the ole ice in the cocktails melts quick...
yup... those are raspberries in DellMarie's drink...
